About MATHCOUNTS
To secure America’s global competitiveness, MATHCOUNTS inspires excellence, confidence and curiosity in U.S. middle school students through fun and challenging math programs. With the generous support of all MATHCOUNTS sponsors and volunteers, and leadership of the National Society of Professional Engineers at the local and state levels, MATHCOUNTS is providing today’s students with the foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.
MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory.
Currently in our 28th year, MATHCOUNTS is one of the country’s largest and most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors and students. President Barack Obama and former Presidents George W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Ronald W. Reagan have all recognized MATHCOUNTS in White House ceremonies. The MATHCOUNTS program has also received two White House citations as an outstanding private sector initiative
Mathcounts Competition Program
The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging “bee” style contests. The program exists in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the Department of Defense and State Department schools and is supported by the National Society of Professional Engineers at the state and local levels. Public, private, religious and home schools alike are eligible to participate, as long as students are in the sixth, seventh and/or eighth grade.
Seso’s Mathcounts team
SESO has been participating in Mathcounts since the early 80’s. We have shown great success throughout the history of the program, constantly finishing in the top 10 at the State Championships. Currently we are the number four ranked program in Puerto Rico. This year under the guidance of Mr. Armando J. Soto we hope to repeat or better last year’s result. Mr. Soto has been the Mathcounts coach since 2007. This year’s team is composed of Michael Sanabria, Felipe Borja, Melody Seda, José A. Ramírez, Ángel Alayón, Alexander Sánchez, Ana Acuña, Eddie Torres, Iván Almodóvar and Christopher Geiger.
